Hogback Homestead - a cabin in the middle of nowhere

So, the next few posts are dedicated to my favorite US state and the adventures it has to offer any day of the week (and to my good friend Cassandra).

So a few weeks ago we discovered that the National Forest Service offers cabins for rent for $60 a nite! The first cabin we stayed at was called the Hogback Homestead - a cabin in the middle of nowhere. There is no electricity, no cell service, and no running water, and no civilization (though there is a hand well pump outside, it is not functional in the winter). You will be completely disconected from society, and at the same time never be bored at all.

Although the cabin does not have electricity, it does have something unique that I had never seen in a house before. The entire house has natural has lighting. The lights run off natural gas along with the stove. It's so cool!

  1. YES!!!! a new post from Blog This!!!! This made my day!!

This looks great - so what do you mean runs off natural gas. Do you mean there's a pipe directly to the ground under it? Or it's a tank that someone has to fill up?
